Recall bias did not affect perceived magnitude of change in health - related functional

چکیده
Background and Objective: It was hypothesized that within an invasively treated group and within a group that improved in angina pectoris no difference in effect size would occur between prospective and retrospective measures. Furthermore, it was hypothesized that assessment of perceived change at post-test may be invalid because of recall bias and present-state bias. Study Design and Setting: Effect sizes (as standardized response means) were used as indicators of magnitude of change. Linear structural equation analysis (with LISREL) was used to investigate the relationship between the estimates of recall accuracy and retrospectively assessed change. Results: No significant differences were found between prospective and retrospective measures of change over time in health-related functional status. Recall bias was not associated with retrospective measurement of change within a 12-week interval. An expected presentstate effect was found in a structural equation model. Conclusion: Prospective and retrospective indices of magnitude of change were similar between groups receiving treatment of known efficacy. Recall bias seems to be an acceptable risk in short-term follow-up studies. 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

متن کاملEpisodic Memory Bias in People with and without General Health
Introduction: Health investigations require a wide and continuous range of studies over physical and moral aspects of humans. Health is feeding good and not being sick. Many factors affect the sustainability of health; one of the important factors is cognitive (memory) factors since episodic memory plays on important role in recording a person’s personal experience related to time and place. M...
متن کاملResponse shift, recall bias and their effect on measuring change in health-related quality of life amongst older hospital patients
BACKGROUND Assessments of change in subjective patient reported outcomes such as health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are a key component of many clinical and research evaluations. However, conventional longitudinal evaluation of change may not agree with patient perceived change if patients' understanding of the subjective construct under evaluation changes over time (response shift) or if p...
متن کاملEffects of Starter Culture and Storage Temperature on Functional, Microbial and Sensory Characteristics of Kefir during Storage
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of starters and storage temperature (4 ºC, 25 ºC) onmicrobiological and physicochemical properties, volatile compounds and sensory evaluation of kefir.Kefirs produced by KFA and Chr. Hansen starters were stored at 4 ºC and 25 ºC for 40 days. pH andacidity at 4 ºC did not change (p ≥ 0.05), while at 25 ºC pH and total solid decreased as well a...
متن کاملSocio-economic Aspects of Health-Related Behaviors and Their Dynamics: A Case Study for the Netherlands
Background Previous studies have mostly focused on socio-demographic and health-related determinants of health-related behaviors. Although comprehensive health insurance coverage could discourage individual lifestyle improvement due to the ex-ante moral hazard problem, few studies have examined such effects. This study examines the association of a comprehensive set of factors including socio-d...
